Are you planning to use your Apple® iPad™ Wi-Fi + 3G outside of the U.S.? Before you travel, be sure you do the following things:
Check for international coverage for your destination:
1. Identify the AT&T roaming partners for your destination country by visiting att.com/dataconnectglobal.
2. Then, find the roaming partner for your destination at www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/index.shtml and select the Coverage Map link to view coverage for the country with that provider.
Availability, quality of coverage, and services while roaming are not guaranteed. Use of services when roaming is dependent upon the AT&T roaming partners’ support of applicable network technology and frequency.
Purchase International AT&T 3G Data Plan for iPad:
You can purchase an international data plan when you activate your domestic plan or at any time. With the international plans, you can set the date when you want the plan to activate – it does not have to start on the day purchased.
It is recommended that you purchase your international plans before you travel outside of the U.S. If your travel plans require more than 30 days or 200 MB of data, you can purchase additional plans and set them to start when the previous plan is depleted. If you are outside of the U.S. and want to purchase an international plan, you can purchase online with a Wi-Fi connection.
Customers must have an active domestic plan if they want to purchase an international plan. Unlike domestic plans, international plans will not auto-renew. International data plans are only good for 30 consecutive days or until you have used all the data included in your plan. iPad Wi-Fi + 3G will work on Wi-Fi networks internationally. However, these networks are not part of the 20,000 free AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots for AT&T customers. You may need to pay for Wi-Fi access, depending on the Wi-Fi provider.

We were amazed last night to see both Apple and AT&T sell out of iPhone 4 pre-order units despite the sustained ordering issues, and now we know why: Apple managed to move 600,000 iPhones in just a single day. Yes, that’s a lot — Apple says it’s the largest number of pre-orders it’s ever taken in one day, and AT&T says it’s ten times as many orders as it took for the iPhone 3GS. It’s not all sunshine and roses, though; Apple’s also apologizing to the large numbers of people who simply couldn’t get through yesterday, and AT&T’s suspended pre-orders entirely until the device is in stock. We’re guessing AT&T might also be putting the stopper on things while it gets those pesky security issues under control, but there’s a chance the carrier is just trying to deal with the insane order volume coming from Apple’s servers — it served up 13 million eligibility checks yesterday, shattering the previous record by three times. All in all, it looks like Apple has a hot item on its hands here — almost too hot to handle. Here’s Apple’s full statement:
Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.

Apple announced Monday morning that it had sold more than 300,000 iPads on Saturday, the first day they were commercially available. Users also downloaded more than 1 million apps for the device and a quarter of a million e-books.
“It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world — it’s going to be a game-changer,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, in a statement. “IPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”
The sales figure was in line with some estimates over the weekend, including one from Piper Jaffrey’s Gene Munster, who guessed the company had sold between 600,000 and 700,000 units over the weekend (that is, including Sunday). The number Apple gave included pre-orders made online.
The second series of 3G-ready iPads debuts later this month.
In 2008, Apple sold one million iPhone 3G’s in the device’s first weekend. And in 2007, it took the company 74 days to sell one million of the original iPhones.
